So... I didn't make it to the art museum that I had planned to go to this morning. I ended up sleeping in. Still, I needed the sleep. So, instead of beating myself up about it... I'm just going to try and go next week. :)
After my one class today, which was Italian, I met up with Zach Green. I know Zach from Chabad back at Temple Main. He's studying in Paris, and told me he was going to be in Rome. And so, we met up and I showed him around. We had the loveliest of evenings.
We met up at Piazza del Popolo. We were both pretty hungry, so I took him to my favorite deli for a panini. Afterwards, we made our way down Via del Corso towards Piazza Venezia. It closed just as we got there, so we didn't have a chance to go to the top. Still, it is still a pretty glorious site to behold.
From there, we made went to Piazza di Ignazio. That's where the church with the false dome is. Then, we went to the Pantheon and San Luigi de Francesi, which holds a Cravaggio painting. Then, we made our way to what Zach called the Mecca of Gelato. I took him to De Palma. They have 100 flavors... including my two favorite; black passion and passion fruit. I know. I know. I have an obsession. The first step though is admitting you have a problem. The second is telling you all to deal with it. haha
From there, we continued on to Piazza Navuona. After walking around and looking at the art being displayed by the many vendors, we decided to just chill there a bit and listen to the street musicians. It was nice. Rome is so magical at night. Mi amo Roma. :)
Our next stop was the Spanish Steps. I took him through Via Condotti, passed the oldest cafe in Roma. Once we got there, we got to see an exhibit going on. This week marks 20 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. In honor of this, Rome had an art exhibit, documentary, and pho Berlin Wall up by the Spanish Steps. It was very cool.
At this point, we were very hungry so we headed down to Piazza Barberini for dinner. I had oysters as an appetizer, and then fettucini with porcini mushrooms for my meal. Zach also had pasta, but with bolognase sauce. We also split some wine. It was pretty delicious. :)
After dinner, we went for a stroll through the Villa Borghese Park, and I showed him some really nice views of the city. Then, we made our way back to Piazza del Popolo where we went our separate ways.
It was a really lovely evening. I sometimes forget how wonderful Rome is until I experience it again. Then, I fall in love all over again. Mi amo Roma. Roma e magnifico! Roma e bellissimo! Roma e perfeto!
Amber's bringing me back some Mafia goods to end this fantastic night. :)
Signing Off,
Ciao Bella...
